Laryngismus

(lar-injiz'-m us) to vociferate. A term loosely applied to various spasmodic affections of the larynx, such as epileptic spasm. See Laryngeal Epilepsy. L. paralytic us, a paralysis of the recurrent laryngeal nerve in horses, producing the affection called "roaring." L. stridulus, laryngospasm; spasmodic croup; spasm of the glottis. A spasmodic affection of the larynx, mainly confined to the early period of childhood. There is a sudden arrest of respiration, with increasing cyanosis, followed by long, loud crowing inspirations. This affection occurs in rachitic children and especially in such as are of the neurotic tendency. The attack may be severe enough to terminate life.
