Church service containing, besides the prayers of the Ma , various parts of the Holy Office recited or sung by the Church at particular hours of the day or night. Mediæval Hours were MSS. ornamented with paintings and borders of flowers, birds and insects of marvelous beauty. The most famous was the Hours of Anne of Britt any, a precious work of art of the late 15th century. Hours of Labor. Most advanced modern governments have limited the hours for which children, young persons, and women are allowed to be occupied in factories or large workshops. Government regulation of the hours of labor for men, though a matter of much discu ion, and even legislation, has not yet been practically carried out. U. S. Government require eight hours' work of their employés.
