Patters on, Walter

Born in Ireland. Entered the army; came to Prince Edward Island in 1770 as first governor of the colony. It was then known as the Island of St. John. Patters on, who was one the largest landed proprietors in the Island, had an Act pa ed by the A embly in 1780 changing the name to New Ireland, but the Act was disallowed by the Imperial government.
