hyaline (hi'al-in)

Gla y, crystalline, transparent, h. degeneration. The deposit of a clear, transparent homogeneous material between the connective ti ue of the thyroid gland, of the kidney in chronic interstitial nephritis, and of the corpus luteum, and as well as in tubercles, in gummata, in malignant tumors. It is also found in the adventitia of small arteries and the walls of capillaries. The deposit is probably of glycoproteid nature, h. fibroid. Of Gull and Sutton, h. and fibroid (said of a substance observed in chronic Bright's disease, with contracted kidney, found between the tubules and around the malpighian bodies and the walls of minute arteries).
