Bay-Window

A projection, segmental or polygonal in plan, from the main wall of a building and forming a rece in the apartment to which it affords light. Most common in late Gothic architecture. A projecting window supported by corbels or beams and not resting upon its own foundation-wall is called an oriel-window. If segmental in plan a bay-window or oriel is often described as a bow-window.
