(hăn'no,) a naval commander of Carthage, led the fleet which encountered and was defeated by that of the Romans near Sicily, 241 B. c., thus putting an end to the first Punic War. H. suffered death in consequence, by order of the Cart hag in i an senate. [s. 438]
