Of Linnaeus, a genus of umbelliferous plants of the tribe Ammineae, subtribe Euammineae. 2. Of the U. S. Ph., the fruit of C. carui. O. ajowan. The annual ajowan, herb cultivated or bishop's in weed; India, asaid small to furnish most of the thymol of commerce. C. carui, C carvi. Caraway; a biennial species growing throughout Europe, bearing an aromatic fruit. C. pet rose linum. Parsley. The root, herb, and fruit have been official. The root was formerly employed as a diuretic and laxative in dropsy and gonorrhea, and was included among the "five greater aperient roots." See apiol. oleum car i.
