SUCCINIC ACID

(Lat. succinum.) An acid obtained among the products of the destructive distillation of amber; when pure it is a white crystalline substance. Its salts are termed succinates; of these the succinate of ammonia is occasionally used as a test for iron. It precipitates the peroxide of that metal in the form of a brown insoluble succinate.
