C18H34O7. Mpt. 45° C. White crystalline acid, produced from oleic acid by the action of nitrous anhydride; of the same composition as the oleic acid from which it is formed. It is easily hunted, and in danger of extermination, but also easily domesticated, valuable for food, and noted for its great amount of fat. Its native habitat is S. Africa.
