a name properly applied to a law pa ed at the comitia tributa on the rogation of a tribune. Originally, a plebiscitum required confirmation by the comitia curiata and the senate; but a Lex Hortensia was pa ed B.C. 286, to the effect that pleb is cit a should bind all the populus ( uni versus populus ), and this lex rendered confirmation unnece ary. The Lex Hortensia is always referred to as the lex which put pleb is cit a as to their binding force exactly on the same footing as leges.
