ABDUCTION

n. Gr., érayua. Lat., abductio (from ab and ducere). Fr., abduction. Ger. Abziehung. It., abduzione. Sp., abduccién. 1. A movement which carries a part away from the median line of the body or (in the case of the fingers and toes) away from the middle line of a limb. [C, E.] See also remarks under ABDUCT EUR. As applied to the hand, the word means flexion toward the radial side of the forearm. 2. (Obs.) separation of the fragments of a broken bone. [A, 323.]
