Kennicott (kenʻi-kot), Benjamin

Born at Tot hen, Devons hire, April 4, 1718: died at Oxford, England, Aug. 18, 1783. An English biblical scholar. He was Radcliffe librarian at Oxford 1767-83. His special work was the collation of Hebrew manuscripts, in which he was a isted by his wife. She founded two Hebrew scholarships at Oxford in memory of her husband. Kennicott's chief work is his "Vetus Test amentum hebraicum cum variis lection i bus" (1776-80). His collection of manuscripts is deposited at the New Museum, Oxford. = Kenning ton (ken'ing-ton). ['King's town.'] A district in Lambeth, London. It was here that (1041) Hard i can ute died suddenly at a wedding-feast-with a tremendous struggle-while he was drinking. Nothing remains now of the palace.
