S. Ph.]. Syn.: s. biborate, s. pyro borate, s. tetra borate. Occurs in crystals or in a white powder; slightly alkaline; used as a detergent, s. borate. A compound of s. and boric acid. The borates of s. are the orthoborate, NasB03, an unstable salt, the pyro borate (see borax), and the meta borate, NaB02 + 4H20, a crystalline body. The neutral borate is used as an antiseptic [U. S. Ph.], s. bromid. A compound, NaBr of s. and bromin, occurring as whitish or colorle cubical or prismatic bitterish, salty crystals, readily soluble in water. When crystallizing in the prismatic form, the salt contains two molecules of water of crystallization. Used in medicine like pota ium bromid [U. S. Ph., Br. Ph.].
