Sciatica

(si-ad -ik-ah) \ischiatic us, from \c- Xtov, ischium]. A disease characterized by neuralgic pain along the course of the sciatic nerve. It usually follows exposure to cold and wet, and is dependent upon inflammation of the nerve. In addition to pain there are numbne and tingling, tenderne along the course of the nerve, and eventually wasting of the muscles. 570
