The sensible horizon is the great circle formed by the intersection with the celestial sphere of a plane pa ing through the eye of the observer perpen dicular to a plumb line. The rational horizon is the great circle formed by a plane pa ing through the earth's center and parallel to the plane of the sensible horizon.
