(bir ba.) [L., beard.] (Bot.) Any collection of long loose hair into a tuft or crest, as on the petals of the Iris.- (Zool.) The long tuft of hair depending from the under jaw of mammal i a. Also, the feathers which, in some species of birds, depend from the skin covering the gullet. [s. 73]
