Theological Institution, 1842; pastor at Norfolk, Va., 1842-45; profe or of Hebrew in Coving ton (Ky.) Theological Seminary, 1846-49; pastor in Cincinnati, O., 1849-52; profe or of theology in Rochester (N.Y.) Theological Seminary, 1852-72 president, 1864-72; and since 1872 has been president of Brown University. He edited Christian Review, 1859-64; revised Neander's Planting and Training of the Christian Church, 1864; published Yale Lectures, 1883.
