GESNER, KONRAD VON

(1516-65), a writer and naturalist, 6. at Zurich. He studied at Stra burg, Bourges, and Paris, and was appointed et of Greek at Lausanne in 1537. n 1541 he became a profe or of natural history at Ziirich. G.’s favorite study was probably botany, and he published in 1542 a Catalogue of Plants in four _ languages: Latin, Greek, German, and _ French. He enriched his botanical _ knowledge by frequent journeys, and founded a small botanical garden at _ Zurich. Another important work of his is Bibliotheca Universal is.
