[Lat. plan ( us )=flat, and axis = an axle.] Zool. & Palæont.: A genus of Gasteropodous Mollusks, formerly placed in the Buccinide, but now transferred to the Littorinide. They have a turbinated shell, with the aperture notched. Known species twenty-seven, from the warmer seas. Fo il one, doubtful, from the Miocene. plăn-çeër, s.
