A knife with a short lanceolate blade, used for spreading putty; a stopping-knife. putty-powder, subst. A pulverized oxide of tin sometimes mixed with oxide of lead. Putty-powder is extensively used in gla and marble works, and the best kinds are used for polishing plate. putty-root, s. Bot .: The viscid tuber of A plectrum hyemale, an American orchid. It is used for cementing broken earthenware.
