& a. [English veget ( able ); -arian .] A. As substantive: 1. One who abstains from animal food, living exclusively on vegetables, milk, eggs, and the like. The more strict vegetarians eat vegetables and farinaceous food only, abstaining from eggs, butter, and milk. 2. One who maintains the doctrine of vegetarianism. B. As adj .: Pertaining or relating to vegetarians or vegetarianism; of or belonging to the diet or system of vegetarians. I. Ordinary Language : 1.
