Bards ol this character flourished from _ the earliest period among the Greeks, anc to a le er extent among the Ro mans. Tacitus seems to hint at their existence among the Germanic tribes. It was, however, above all, among the Gauls and other Celtic nations that they flourished most, Bard, Samuel, an American phy. sician, born in Philadelphia, April 1. 1742; —o. in Phil a dei phi a and New York; was the principal mover in the establishment of the medical school of Kings {oe College; _., of the New York College of Physicians and Surgeons that suc ceeded the medical school. He died in Hyde Park, N. Y., May 24, 1821.
