The general name of substances used in medicine; any substance, vegetable, animal, or mineral, used in the composition or preparation of medicines: The term is also applied to materials used in dyeing and in chemistry. In strict usage, this term. is to be distinguished from "apothecary." A druggist deals in the uncompounded medicinal substances; the busine of an apothecary 1s to mix and co~pound them.
