(kāl-ah-trah'va,) (ORDER OF.) (Her.) A Spanish order of knighthood, founded by Sancho III. in 1158, in commemoration of the defence of the city of Calatrava la Vieja when attacked by the Moors. The kings of Spain are perpetual grand-masters of this order. [s. 130]
