Edouard ( son of He in rich Hecht, musician, Frankfort ). b. Dürkheim-on-the-Haardt, Rhenish Bavaria 28 Nov. 1832; came to England, Nov. 1854, settled at Manchester as a music master; conductor of Manchester Liedertafel 1859–78, of St. Cecilia choral soc. 1860 and of Stretford choral soc. 1879; chorus master for Sir Charles Hallé at his concerts 1870 and then sub-conductor; lecturer on harmony and composition, Owen’s coll. 1875; conductor of Bradford and Halifax musical soc.; wrote The charge of the light brigade, a chorus ; Impromptu for the pianoforte 1872; Eric the Dane, a cantata 1882 and 23 other pieces of music. d.
