(e-pif'ah-ne.) [Gr. epiphania, literally, a manifestation.] (Eccl.) A Christian festival observed on the 6th January (being the 12th day after Christmas), in commemoration of the Saviour being manifested by the miraculous appearance of a star to the Magi, or wise men, who came to adore him and bring him gifts. In some countries, and as a household festival, the E. is styled the Day of the Kings and Twelfth Night. [s. 335]
