Douglas ( younger son of John Cheape of Ro ie, Fifes hire 1757–1838 ). b. 1797; member of Faculty of Advocates, Edin. 1819; profe or of civil law in Univ. of Edin. 1827–42, substituted English for Latin in cla examinations; author of Res Judicata and other squibs published in the Court of Se ion Garland 1839, his other squibs were The book of the chronicles of the city, being a Scriptural account of the election of a member for the city of Edinburgh in May 1834 , and probably La festa d’Over grog hi (Over Gogar near Edinburgh) a burlesque opera in Italian and English. d.
