HAGOOD, JOHNSON

(1873); Army Officer.) B. in South Carolina. Educated at University of South Carolina, and a graduate of United States Military Academy. Second lieutenant of second artillery in 1896 and was promoted through the grades to Brigadier-General fin 1921. From 1896-1901 did garrison duty in Rhode Island, Connecticut and South Carolina. From 1901-1904 was instructor in department of philosophy, United States Naval Acadmy. From 1912-1913 was commander of Fort Flagier, Washington. Was in France during World War. In battles on Britfsh, French and American Fronts. Decorated in 1919 with Distinguished Service Medal. Inventor of Hagood tripod mounting mortar deflection and other apparatus for sea-coast defense.
