palmata (ro-di-me' -ne-ah). A marine Alga (Scotch, Dulse; Irish, Dillesk), parasitic on littoral Fuci, Lamina rim, etc. It contains a mucilage which is used in scrofula. Its value is probably dependent upon contained iodin. It is largely used as food in the west of Ireland, also in the Mediterranean regions, where it forms a common ingredient of soups.
