Image Worship

Practically unknown till ab. 300; denounced by St. Augustine. The term is misleading, for images themselves are worshiped only through superstition, and not IMG:content-0740.jpg:[graphic] Images inside the Crater of Otuiti, Easter Island. with Christian authority. The R. C. Ch. has for centuries allowed the use of pictures, statues, and crucifixes as symbols and aids to devotion. Luther ans may have paintings in churches; Anglicans may not.
