(faj-e-de’nah) [Gr. payé δαινα; φαγεῖν to eat]. Rapidly spreading and 725 PHALACROSIS sloughing ulceration. sloughing p., hospital gangrene. tropical p., an infectious phagedena occurring in the tropics in repeated attacks. It sometimes results in a chronic atonic ulcer. phagedenic (faj-e-den‘ik) [Gr. φαγεδαινικός]. Rapidly spreading and eating; like phagedena. phagedenoma, phagedsnoma (faj’cd-en-omah) [Gr. gayedalrwual. A phagedenic ulcer. phagmesis (fag-me’sis). Presence of feathers instead of hairs. phagocaryosis (fag’o-kar-e-o’sis). Phagokaryosis. phagocytable (fag’o-sit-ab-l). Capable of being subject to phagocytosis. Ῥ (fag’o-sit) (Gr. φαγεῖν to eat + κύτος ]. Any cell that destroys microdrganisms or harmful cells by enveloping and absorbing them. ocytes are either fixed (endothelial cells, etc.) or free (leukocytes). The two forms of leukocytes which are phagocytic are the large lymphocyte (macro phage) and the polymorphonuclear leukocyte educated p. See educated corpuscle under corpuscle. globuliferous p., one which takes up the blood-corpuscles. me laniferous p., one which takes up the blood pigment. phagocytic (fag-o-sit’ik). Pertaining to or pro- (microphage). duced by phagocytes.
