Duke of Exeters Daughter

( Hist.) An instrument of torture resembling the rack in construction. It is said to have been invented in England, during the reign of Henry VI., by the dukes of Exeter and Su ex. According to Black stone, it was never put into use. It was at one time exhibited along with other instruments of torture in the Tower of London. Dukes, in Ma achusetts , an extreme S.E. co., consisting of several islands separated from Barns table co. by Vineyard Sound, the principal of which is Martha's Vineyard. Area , abt. 118 sq. m.
