Attrition

(at-trish'un.) [From L. attrit us, a rubbing against.] That contact of bodies, one against another, which causes them to throw off superficial particles.(Theol.) In the Roman Catholic breviary, an imperfect kind of sorrow, which, with confe ion, is held to be sufficient to obtain absolution for the sin that has formed its cause. [s. 59]
