(in'tur-im.) [ L.] Literally, an intervening space of time.-(Hist.) The name is attached to the under noted polemical decrees: (1.) The Interim of Rat is bon, 1541, which referred the German theological controversy to the decision of a general council. (2.) The Interim of Augsburg, 1548, which, promulgated by the emperor Charles V., failed, when discu ed before the diet a embled in that city,to reconcile the conflicting interest of Catholic and Protestant. (3.) The Interim of Leipzig, 1548, was i ued with the same objectbyMaurice, Elector of Saxony; it also failed in its intended purpose, and was revoked along with that of Augsburg, in 1552. [s. 488]
