PUPA

(Lat. pupa, a puppet.) A genus of land snails, so called from the resemblance of the shell to the pupe, or chrysalis of an insect. Several species are British, as Pupa umhi'/rata, Drap.; P. mar inn at a, Drap.; P. edentula, Drap. [s. 1018]
