TODDALIA

(Lat.), n. f. ToM-dal(da31)'i2-a3. Fr.,toddali.toddalie. A genus of the Toddalieae. which are a tribe of the Rutacece. [a. 35.] T. aculeata, T. asiatica. A tropical Asiatic shrub containing an aromatic, bitter, acrid principle which makes it stimulant, carminative, and tonic. The bark, especially the root-bark, is used as a stomachic and febrifuge. The leaves are used in baths and fomentations and are eaten raw in intestinal complaints. The green fruits, together with the root, are used externally in rheumatism.
