The cascabel or knob at the rear end of a cannon: the common term in early artillery, as of the sixteenth century. pommetty (pom'e-ti), a. [Also pommetté, pommettee, pomettie, pometie; Cro pommetty (0). pommetty -that is, ending in two knobs or lobes side by side. - Fe e pommetty. Same as fe e bottony (which see, under fe e ). pommeture (pom'e-tur), n. [ pommy (pom'i), a. In her., same as pommetty. Pomolobus (pō-mol'ō-bus), n. [NL. (Rafinesque, 1820), P. chrysochloris, the Ohio shad; besides this species the genus contains most of the American herrings which have usually been placed in Clupea. P. mediocris is the tailor herring, or fall herring; P. vernal is is the alewife, or branch herring; P. æstivalis is the glut-herring or blueback.
