Surveyor

A person entrusted with the inspection and/or superintendence of anything in his special department. Surveyors are named either after the Institution, in whose employment they are, as..Board of Trade Surveyors”,.Lloyd’s Surveyors”, „ Veritas Surveyors”, „ Tribunal Surveyors",. Underwriter Surveyors", etc. and/or the branch of their busine , as.Ship Surveyors”,.Engineer Surveyors”,..Nautical Surveyors", etc. Note: Surveyors whether in a Government Department, an Institution or in private practice, are of three different kinds viz*: Ship-, Engineer-, and Nautical Surveyors; to prevent misunderstanding in the description given of each, it should be observed, that a Shipwright may in his earlier days have been a Mariner and/or Engineer, and a Shipmaster engaged in the Ship-building or Engineering line; so that each may have a perfect knowledge of matters beyond his own special department; but these form exceptions.
