[Greek skytos leather, and siphon a hollow body, a siphon. Named from the tubular and coriaceous form of the fronds.] Bot.: A genus of Dictyotide. Fucoids, growing in the ocean. Scytosiphon filum is thirty or forty feet long. It is common in the Northern Ocean, and in Scalpa Bay, Orkney, makes navigation difficult.
