A morbid outgrowth from a cutaneous or mucous surface; in botany, a nodule or embryo bud on the surface of a stem, a gall, etc. cauliflower e. Soft cancer of the cervix uteri, fun gating e., fungous e. of the umbilicus. Syn.: granuloma of the umbilicus, warty tumor of the umbilicus, vascular polypus of the umbilicus. An exuberant nipple like fungous growth springing from the umbilicus after the separation of the umbilical cord, horny e. See cornu cutaneum. papillary e's of the membrana tympani. Light red papillae, of varying size, occurring singly or in groups, or in great numbers spread over the whole surface of the tympanic membrane.
