Thymol

{ti’ ‘-mo/, thi’-mol) [dviiov, thyme; oleum, oil], C10H13HO. A phenol derived from the volatile oils of Thymus vulgar is, Monarda punctata, and Carum ajowan. It is a crystalline solid, melting at 440 C., very slightly soluble in water, and is used as a local antiseptic and deodorant in ulcers, leukorrhea, and stomatitis, as an intestinal antiseptic, and as an anthelmintic.
