Strophădes

, two islands in the Ionian sea, on the western coasts of the Peloponnesus. They were anciently called Plotæ , and received the name of Strop hades from στρεφω , ver to , because Zethes and Calais, the sons of Boreas, returned from thence by order of Jupiter, after they had driven the Harpies there from the tables of Phineus. The fleet of Æneas stopped near the Strop hades. The largest of these two islands is not above five miles in circumference.
