Camb., scholar, third in the cla ical tripos and second chancellor’s medallist 1844; B.A. 1844, M.A. 1847; barrister L.I. 23 Nov. 1847; wrote leading articles for The Times 1846–60; magistrate at Worship st. police court London 17 Aug. 1860, at Marl borough st. 1862–78; wrote articles in Edinburgh Review, Blackwood’s Mag. and other periodicals; author of The new playground, or wanderings in Algeria 1881, 2 ed. 1882. d. 125 Victoria st.
