The operation in gilding by which the amalgam of gold is evaporated. drying-oil, s. Paint .: A term applied to linseed and other oils, heated with oxide of lead, and used as the bases of many paints and varnishes. On exposure to the air they absorb oxygen, and become a hard, tough, dry varnish. A colorle oil may be obtained by combining linseed or nut oil with litharge, and triturating them together for a considerable time.
