River of w. Siam, flowing s. into Gulf of Siam. Length ab. 750 m. Menander, 342-291 B.C. Principal writer of the New Comedy at Athens, which employed the society plot instead of the political satire common before. He was much admired posthumously: his works furnished the material for most of the Latin plays of Terence. They exist only in fragments.
