Aubaine

[Fr., from O. Fr. aubain, a foreigner.] (Fr. Law.) A legal proce formerly existing in France, by which the sovereigns claimed the property of a stranger who had died in their dominions without having been naturalized. The droit d'aubaine was abolished by laws of 1790 and 1791, re-established in 1804, and finally abolished July 14th, 1819.
