GUANO

an extremely fertilising maou consisting chiefly of the excrement of ses birds that feed on fish. ‘The best variet is found on the islands and coasts of coun ries with a dry, bot climate. Deposits t the depth of 60 feet have been found o the coast of Peru, Bolivia, and Ohil The supply from these sources has bee gradually decrenstnn: but a good substitat lias been found in fish guano, obtaine chiefly by artificially drying and grindin to powder the heads and back-bones cod-fish and herrings.
