AMMONIUM

(Lat.), n. n. Skaam(ska'm)-mon'i'1-u3m(um). See SCAMMONY. Confectio [Br. Ph.] (seu electuarium) scammonii. Fr., electuaire (ou confection) de scammonee. Ger., S1- lativerge. A preparation made by rubbing 3 oz. of resin of scammony and H oz. of ginger, both in fine powder, with 3 fl. oz. of syrup and U oz. of clarified honey, adding 1 fluiclrachm of oil of caraway and \ flu i drachm of oil of cloves, and mixing [Br. Ph.]. The older ph's directed the mixture of 31 parts each of scammony and ginger with 1'3 part of oil of cloves and enough syrup of orange-peel, or of 46 parts of scammony and 23 each of ginger and cloves with 15 of oil of caraway and enough syrup of roses. Ph.]) scammonii. Fr., emulsion purgative avec la scammonee, emulsion (ou mixture) de scammonee. Ger., S'emulsion. An extemporaneous mixture of 6 grains of powdered scammony and 2 fl. oz. of milk. [B, 95 (a, 38).] Pilula scainmoiiii compos it a [Br. Ph.], A preparation made by di olving 1 oz. each of the resins of jalap and scammony and powdered animal soap in a mixture of 1 fl. oz. of stronger tincture of ginger and 2 of alcohol, and evaporating to pilular consistence.
