Canute

(the Great,) (kan'yūt.) [Dan. knud or knut.] The 2d king of Denmark of that name. Proclaimed Caparisoned, king by the Danes in 1014, he completed the conquest of England begun by his father Sweyn, 1017. He was a just and beneficent prince, and one who gained both the Cape, affections of his subjects and the esteem of foreigners. D. 1036. [s. 139]
