(in-jek’shun) [L. injec’tio, from in into + ja'cere to throw]. 1. The act of throwing a liquid into a part, such as the rectum or a blood ve el. 2. A substance thrown into a part or organ; an enema. 3. The condition of being injected; congestion. anatomic i., an injection into the ve els or organs of the cadaver. designed to facilitate di ection or demonstration. coarse i., an anatomic injection that serves to fill only the larger ve els. Θ i., an anatomic injection that fills even the smallest ve e's. gaseous i., an injection of gas or air to aid in an anatomic demonstration. gelatin i., a preservative injection of which gelatin is the base. hypo dermatic i., hypodermic i., an injection made into the subcutaneous ti ues. Called also subcutancous i. intracardiac i., an injection into the cavity of the heart. intradermic i., an injection into the substance of the skin. intra- muscular i., an injection into the substance of the muscles. intravascular i., an injection thrown into a ve el. intravenous i., an injec- tion made into a vein. parenchymatous i., one made into the substance of an organ. plaster i., a coarse injection of a thin paste of calcined gypsum and water, which becomes hardened in the ve els. preservative i., an injection that serves to protect a cadaver or specimen from decay.
